Welcome back Santiago Satorre Duran

The power of social media! Reconnecting with a former student from the '70s.

In April we posted a photo from our archives on our alumni media platforms of Srta. Raquel Domingo’s Grade 3 class from the 1970s and soon after received a contact from one of the students in that photo!

Thanks to the keen eye of Santiago Satorre Duran, who spotted himself in the photo, a heartwarming reunion took place on campus with our Director of Alumni Relations, Michelle Collin, former ES teacher MS. Febe Bellon (1986-2018), and alumna and faculty Ms. Marta Vernet ‘85, Head of Community Service and Activities, who warmly welcomed Santi back to school for the first time since 1974. He was also able to meet ASB’s current Director, Mark Pingitore, Assistant Director Bill Volchok, and fellow alum, Head of Facilities, Mr. Jose Manuel Calahorra ‘84, who grew up living on ASB’s former and first campus at Plaza Eusebio Güell in Barcelona and whose parents both worked for the school since its inauguration in 1962, until their retirement in the 1990s.

Santi, who attended the American School of Barcelona from 1963 to 1974, has fond memories of the school and shared many recollections of his former teachers, including Ms. Raquel Domingo, Ms. Fran Nelson, Ms. Amparo Anguera, Mr. Patterson, Prof. Roberto Serrano, and Prof. Aparicio, with whom he traveled to Madrid to play football at the Iberian Tournament against the American School of Madrid. He brought many ASB memorabilia to campus, including a retro sweater and many historical documents, which he has generously donated to the school. It has been wonderful to explore ASB’s history again with Santi and we are grateful for his outreach.
