In April our 9th annual RefugArt student-led fundraising event under the leadership of Ms. Marta Vernet, Mr. Javier Caparros, Ms. Valentina Pollini, Ms. Ana Martinez, and Ms. Hannah Chandler, with support from our art department, led by Ms. Ana Martinez, Ms. Samantha McGuinness, and Ms. Isabel Tinoco, dedicated to raising awareness for refugees and supporting relief efforts, showcased the power of unity and collaboration and the power of play and sports to transform lives.
We are incredibly grateful to the artists and families who generously donated and bid on beautiful artworks and to Candela Heine '24 for her leadership during the live auction. We are deeply grateful for UNHCR's (ACNUR) ongoing support and extend our appreciation to our speakers for their collaboration and advocacy. Special thanks also to NGO Associació Esportiva Ramassà for their partnership.
The heartfelt stories shared by our refugee speakers, Mr. Shahid Ashraf and Mr. Amir Salihefendic, moved us all and powerfully reminded us of the importance of empathy and solidarity. We also want to acknowledge the contributions of individuals such as Ms. Pilar Olivares Giner of Dolls4Girls, Ms. Hannah Chandler, Seniors Carson Brown and Jan Pasquin, Mr. Peter Wilson and his G3 choir, and the talented performers from Renata Ramos Dance Studio, whose involvement enriched the evening's program.
Finally, we thank our generous sponsors—Raventós i Blanc, Can Sumoi, Hostesa, Adam Foods, and Farina & Sons—for their support and partnership in hosting a memorable cocktail hour at ASB's outdoor "Chiringuito."
The success of RefugArt2024 reaffirms our belief in the power of service. We eagerly anticipate next year's event, marking a decade of supporting refugees in need. Together, we can make a difference.
Since its founding in 2016 by ASB student Alyssa Skites ‘17, RefugArt has raised over 100,000€ to support refugees worldwide. Visit the student website here.
