It was so special to see ASB alumni back supporting this year’s Spotlight Productions performance of Emerald, a tribute to Wicked. Seeing familiar faces in the audience, backstage, and at rehearsals means so much to our performers, and it shows that the connections made at Spotlight don’t end at graduation.
A special shout-out to alumna Eira Torras Llinares ’22 for her commitment over the past few months. Eira spent time during her winter break helping Michelle Spencer build sets and props, came to Sunday rehearsals to assist the directors, and was everywhere during show week, from sewing costumes to repairing sets, and reconnecting with the program that first sparked her love for theatre. She worked closely with all the Directors, including Kaitlin Kemp, Choreographer Renata Ramos, Set Director Michelle Spencer, and Musical Director Ed Aldcroft, bringing the same energy and passion she’s always had for performing.
We were also thrilled to welcome back former Spotlight performers, several of whom have chosen to continue their theatrical journeys at college and beyond: alumna Júlia Cummins Gutiérrez ’25, Chiara Galli ’22, Guille Muntadas Prim ’24, Miranda “Mimi” Newland ’24, Luca Parat (2019–25), Martina Ribas Nielles ’25, and Sofia Skeen ’25. It’s so inspiring for our current students to see alumni who once stood in their shoes.
As Renata shared, “Many of these alumni, like Laura Balletbo ’09, Danae Jimenez Porta ’94, and sisters Miréia and Sandra Lopez Mahillo ’09, have performed with me since they were young. Now, as adults, they return to support current performers. Once a Spotlight family member, always a Spotlight family member!”
Some alumni we spotted in the audience. If we missed you, thank you for being there and supporting our budding thespians:
Febe Belon (former staff 1986-2018), Efehan Duru ’21, Chiara Fachin ’21, Susan Fleming (former staff 1991–2025), Peter and Lauren Freer (parents of Zach ’23, Julia ’25), Paul and Jen Loftus (parents of Ellie ’21, Liam ’24, Feeney ’27), Ana Mercadal ’03, Stephen and Natasha Polakoff (parents of Anna ‘24, Sofia ‘31), Adrienne Puno ’25, Stella Skeen (2021–25), Brian and Brayden Spencer ’22, Oscar and Maria Sanchez (parents of Claudia ’20, Natalia ’21, and Emma ’26).
