This past week, we had the pleasure of welcoming back alumna Margot Nelson-Owen ('70) to campus! Margot, a former student of the American School of Barcelona and gymnastics champion of Spain, shared fond memories of her time at our school when it was just 60 students strong.
Alumni Relations Director Michelle Collin and former faculty member Ms. Febe Bellon, who still volunteers weekly in the school's library and alumni office, hosted Margot's visit. She was also able to reconnect with two longtime ASB staff members, Ms. Marta Vernet and Mr. Jose Manuel Calahorra, alumni of the school whose parents also worked at ASB. Together, they reminisced about earlier times when Margot's mother was a beloved teacher at the school.
Margot generously donated three missing yearbooks to our archives, reconnecting us with pieces of ASB history. It was a delight to flip through these pages with our current students, catching glimpses of past times and seeing how some ASB traditions—like the annual ski trip—are still going strong!
Margot's visit was a walk down memory lane—from her days at ASB's former locations in Eusebio Guell and Via Augusta to the lasting impact of her mother, Ms. Frances Nelson, who taught here for over two decades. It was inspiring to hear about her journey from ASB to becoming a doctor, forensic psychiatrist, and prison healthcare inspector across multiple countries.
Margot reminded us that ASB connections never fade, and we couldn't agree more! Enjoy photos from her visit in the photo gallery below (you must be logged in to view them).
