Alumni Spotlight: Pablo Urrutia '21

A Commitment to Community Service that started at ASB

Alum Pablo Urrutia's ‘21 journey from PK3 to G12 at ASB is a continuation of family tradition and a testament to his commitment to service and community engagement. Like his brother Dani '22 and father, Oscar Urrutia '85, Pablo has graduated from ASB and become a shining example of a well-rounded student and an inspiring force for change.

Currently pursuing a degree in Law and Business at ESADE in Barcelona, Pablo's passion for economics and politics is complemented by his extensive involvement in community service throughout his academic years. His service journey began early, as he joined Rotary's Rotakids in middle school and progressed to become an Interact in HS. He is now a proud Rotaract member at Rotary Barcelona 92.

Marta Vernet '85, ASB's Head of Activities and Community Service, herself a Rotarian at the same club, commends Pablo's dedication: "Pablo is such a well-rounded student everyone loves. He inaugurated the Rotakids Club while serving as the President of Interact BCN 92, spoke at the Rotary Barcelona 92 club's 25th anniversary, and recently became a Rotaract at the club's 30th anniversary. He is an example of commitment and an inspirational story that demonstrates when students engage in service from a young age, they are more likely to become changemakers through their profession."

Pablo’s commitment to service, leadership, and creating positive change exemplifies the transformative impact that an engaged student can have on both their local and global communities. As he continues to bridge gaps between academia and the professional world, he stands as a testament to the enduring values instilled at the American School of Barcelona.

Earlier this year, we had the privilege of welcoming him back to campus to meet with our middle school Rotakids with supervisor Ms. Dawn Austin and Ms. Marta Vernet to explain a future collaboration with a charitable rally (UNIRAID 2024) of ESADE Motor, that Pablo was participating in from February 9-20 in Marrakech, covering over 2500km of extreme conditions. The goal, apart from building a car to finish the rally, was to provide school, sports, and medical supplies to underprivileged minorities throughout the rural areas they would be passing through.

“I’m excited to see the passion that ASB Rotakids brings to working towards projects that create an impact."
