Defne Sevil '17 returns to Barcelona

Now married and working in Corpus Christi.

In May 2023, Defne Sevil '17, who attended the American School of Barcelona in Grades 10 to 12 with her brother, Bartu, was warmly welcomed back to campus by Alumni Relations Director Michelle Collin, when she visited with her newlywed husband, Luis. The couple were in Barcelona as part of their European honeymoon.

With roots in Turkey, Defne spent her first 12 years in Texas before moving to Barcelona following her father's career with PepsiCo. Following graduation, she completed her B.A. in International Studies at UC San Diego, where she commenced an internship within the University Development office, which later evolved into a full-time position. In 2022 she started a new role as Director of Development at Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, a small organization where Defne has the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the business.

During their tour, Defne was able to reconect with many of her former teachers, including her favorite Spanish teacher, Ms. Linda Corral. The duo also had the chance to explore a new addition to the campus within the middle school building, the new Lynx Athletics Center.

It was wonderful to reconnect after so many years. We wish Dafne and Luis both much happiness and success in their future!
