On June 23, 2023, we received a visit from alum Dr. Josep Domingo-Domenech '92, his wife, Veronica Rodriguez-Bravo, a prominent scientist, and their three daughters, Sarah, Andrea, and Aina.
Currently Director of the Translation Research Urology Department at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Josep has great memories of his time at the American School of Barcelona together with his two sisters, Eva and Cristina. He was proud to have the opportunity to show his children his former school.
As a student, Josep was team captain for the school soccer team, so it was wonderful to find a team photo on the 60th display panels in the auditorium to share with his daughters. Josep and his wife have chosen a school in Rochester for their daughters with similar values and intercultural study body to what he experienced at ASB. "The school allows students to be open-minded and to develop the flexibility to succeed in a globalized world."
It was a fun reunion when Josep caught up with his former chemistry teacher, Mr. Mark Smith, on his official last day of school. He also met Ms. Ashley Holst, Instruction Technology Coach from Rochester. One of the daughters of a former classmate, alumna, and current parent, Verónica Mimoun '93, also recognized Josep while touring campus. Ms. Marta Vernet, Head of Community Service and alumna from the Class of 1985 recalled many stories about traveling with Josep and his classmates as a young teacher assistant on trips like Ski Week and Carmel. Ms. Christina Torrengo, ECC principal and alumna from the Class of 1984, was also able to share recollections of the former campus and highlight changes over the years.
As he left campus, Josep shared that the memories he relived during his tour had reminded him of the resilience, friendships, and lessons acquired during his formative years. He left with a renewed sense of gratitude for the opportunities that have molded him into the person he has become.
Wonderful to see him and his beautiful family thriving in life!
