Who remembers the Orchard Trail?

Ms. Ros and Ms. Febe take a walk down memory lane.

Spring is a wonderful time of the year that reminds us to walk outside and enjoy the plethora of plants and flowers that are blooming around Catalonia at this time of the year.

Does anyone remember the ASB Orchard Trail with the stepping stones that were created by students under the guidance of Ms. Ros Greehy, who taught at ASB from 1975 to 2014?

Together with her Grade 3 homeroom, Ms. Ros and her “Green Team” members had the school community vote on plants and trees they would like to see in the Orchard Trail that would thrive in our Mediterranean climate.

She also collaborated with Ms. Lynda’s high school art students to incorporate beautiful stepping stones inlaid with mosaic flower designs along the walk to guide students and indicate the different plants along the walk.

Ms. Ros stopped by campus recently, and together with another former teacher, Ms. Febe Bellon (1986-2016), they were able to locate one of the original mosaic stones and several of the original trees and plants from the Orchard Trail.

“Making a positive impact on our environment starts with the children. They have a voice and need to learn how to use it. Our Orchard Trail was a very grassroots idea that impacted everyone on campus,” shared Ms. Ros.

Ms. Febe recalled bringing her Grade 1 students to visit the Orchard Trail and helping them to identify plants and herbs. “It was something the entire community could enjoy.”

During her visit, Ms. Ros was also able to see her daughter, Ana Mercadal, ASB’s Head of Human Resources, granddaughter, Chloe, and several former colleagues.
