Staff alumna Ms. Montserrat Yll is one of the founding teachers of the American School of Barcelona. Today she participated in a solidarity race in Sitges to eradicate Polio, organized by the Rotary Club Barcelona 92.
"Although she was in a wheelchair for the 4.3 km race, her attitude was remarkable," shared her daughter, Ms. Marta Vernet, who is currently Head of Activities and Community Service at ASB and an alumna herself, "with almost 94 years of age, she persevered and finished the race. I am so proud of her!"
Marta is an active Rotarian. She introduced the Rotary Interact and Rotakids programs to ASB. "I love to see children empowered through service."
Since 1975, Rotary has been instrumental in eradicating Polio globally through active sponsorship, fundraising, and awareness events for countries in need of vaccinations for children. Today, thanks to Rotary, Polio only exists in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria.
Our ASB middle school Rotakids students will organize a fundraising race to support the fight against Polio during school hours this month. More information will be shared on our school account soon. What an important cause!
