This summer, July 14-17, ASB was represented at the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, by newly graduated alum Arsenii Korytko '26 and incoming Grade 10 student Ambar Alda Garcia, both competing for Team Spain, joining over 700 of the brightest young minds, coaches, and judges from more than 80 nations.

The team won three of their eight preliminary rounds and, more importantly, gained invaluable experience competing at the highest level of school debating, learning from peers and judges from around the world.

We are especially proud that this year's Team Spain was coached by ASB alumni Jake Anderson (ASB '20, Stanford '24), who also served as team manager, and Quinten Meyer (Class of 2026), who also judged at the tournament and traveled with the team to Africa.

Quinn shared: “It was a joy to coach and accompany the team to WSDC this year! I’m so proud of everyone’s performance and determination. It was an incredible experience for everyone, both in terms of debate and the location in Nairobi. I look forward to continuing to coach the team in the years to come!”

Additional alumni mentors, Zachary Freer (ASB '23, Brown '27) and Karolina Tudman (ASB '23, Bristol '25), also supported the team virtually in preparation for the championship.

Congratulations to Arsenii, Ambar, and our alumni coaches, mentors, and judges for keeping the tradition of debate alive and thriving and representing Team Spain on the international stage!
