June was a season of familiar faces on campus, with members of the Class of 2025 stopping by to share how their first year beyond ASB had gone.
Halía Simon, Rafael Ortega, and Seif Akingbade came as a trio. Halía is studying Bioengineering at UC Berkeley, Rafael is studying Biology at Carleton University in Ottawa, and Seif is studying Engineering Technology at KU Leuven in Belgium. All three are loving their programs and enjoying the freedom that comes with first-year university life.
Carlos Han, who spent four years at ASB before graduating, also stopped by. Now studying math and computer science at the University of Florida, Carlos is embracing the full American university experience: he's joined a fraternity and has been exploring cities like Orlando, Miami, and Atlanta, which has only made him want to see more of the country. What surprised him most? The incredible range of American accents from coast to coast, and the sheer size of cars, malls, and retail giants like Target and Walmart.
Rosa Guillen Ramirez, a true ASB lifer who attended from preschool through high school, also returned to share that she is now studying Social Education at Blanquerna University in Barcelona, with plans to pursue Psychology later. She reconnected with teachers from her earliest elementary years through to her IB years, all of whom were thrilled to see her thriving and so passionate about a path she discovered after graduation. "I didn't do the traditional university campus visits in high school, and I remember many of my classmates deciding on their programs and universities quite early on. But regardless, I found what I was truly passionate about, even if it was not in the traditional way. I'm so grateful for the support I received from my teachers throughout the IB — Ms. Magda, Ms. Meyer, Ms. Kittle, Ms. Bronwyn, and Mr. Marcelo, to name a few." Rosa's brother Eloy is also an ASB graduate (Class of 2023) and is currently studying Chemical Engineering at the Universitat de Barcelona.
Mosby Cazer and Fahad Hossain, now based across North America, also made time to reconnect with the school and with each other back in Barcelona. Mosby is heading to the University of Miami in the fall, and Fahad is studying at the University of Toronto. During their visit, they caught up with former IB teachers and staff and heard about the school's new plans from Director Mark. Fahad also collected his senior letterman jacket from high school secretary Ms. Minu, which he had designed and printed for the grade as his CAS project at his family's business in Bangladesh, a true labor of love and well worth the wait!
We loved seeing all of you and hearing how your first year has gone. Come back anytime.
ASB will always be your home!
