Stanford to Startup: The Vision Behind Paratus Health

Pablo Bermudez-Canete ‘23, who attended The American School of Barcelona from Grades 7–12, was the youngest in his family to graduate—following his brother Alvaro Bermudez-Cañete ‘21 and sister Ines Bermudez-Canete ‘19. His father, Pau Bermudez, also served on ASB’s Board of Trustees for many years.

After graduating, Pablo pursued Computer Science with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence and Economics at Stanford University. Following his first year, his startup, Paratus Health, which he co-founded with Tannen Hall, was accepted into Y Combinator, one of the world’s most prestigious startup accelerators, with a 1% acceptance rate. Y Combinator provided funding, mentorship, and access to an unparalleled network, presenting an opportunity too valuable to pass up. As a result, Pablo put his Stanford studies on hold to dedicate himself fully to Paratus, a digital healthcare platform designed to improve patient care during long wait times.

“In just two months, we developed and launched our product, and today, we are actively deployed in over four hospitals and clinics. Our technology has helped identify conditions earlier and provided doctors with critical insights, enabling faster, more informed decisions and improving patient outcomes.”

Reflecting on his time at ASB, Pablo shares: “Switching between my cell research in Biology and analyzing the Taiwanese market in Economics taught me how to juggle completely different assignments simultaneously—an essential skill in the fast-paced world of startups.”

ASB in one word?
“Supportive.”

Best of luck with Paratus, Pablo! We look forward to seeing your platform make an impact within the healthcare industry in Europe soon.
