Who remembers Sevillana dance classes with Mr. Aguilar?

Former Athletic Director (1991-96) visits ASB

Former PE teacher and Athletic Director, Mr. Silvio Aguilar, visited Barcelona after many years and stopped by the American School of Barcelona yesterday, where he taught from 1991-1996.

“Barcelona and the school still have the same atmosphere. It’s very calming.”

Married to a former Grade 2 teacher, Ms. Sarita Fordham, whom he met at ASB, the couple today have two children, Jordi and Solena, who have both graduated from university in California.

Mr. Aguilar is an Elementary School Physical Education teacher in Half Moon Bay, California. He still umpires baseball and referees basketball. He has fond memories of his time at ASB, especially of teaching his high school students the flamenco dance, Sevillana, which he learned while living in Spain.

While on campus, he could visit our new facilities, like the Lynx Athletics Center and the gymnasium, and meet Assistant Athletic Director Coach Lluis. He was able to see several former colleagues, including Ms. Christina Torrengo, Ms. Minu Yzaguirre, Mr. Steve Bartlett, and Ms. Marta Vernet, as well as meet his former third-grade student, Head of Human Resources, Ms. Ana Mercadal, whose mother, Ms. Ros Greehy, was also a former colleague. It was a wonderful, wholesome morning of reunion.

“Thank you so very much for the fantastic tour! It was so emotional for me to be on campus and revisit my wonderful ASB colleagues. So gratifying to see the impressive progress of the school!”

We wish Mr. Aguilar a wonderful summer as he begins to trek the Camino de Santiago this week. Thank you for reconnecting with us - come visit again soon!
